Court-ordered child support?

I went to court today for a child support hearing..My child's father owes about $5,500 in backpay support but he has no job and he is on probation. i know he has to pay probation fees though. How he is doing that i have no clue, but my question is?.. What are the next steps from this point of having the judge ordering him to pay. how long could i expect to wait before i recieve some payments from him? He doesnt and hasnt supported his daughter since birth (she turns 3 this year) and im tired of him living carefree when im struggling. Does anybody know how the system and process works? PLEASE ANSWER WITH USEFUL ANSWERS ONLY..
